Frequently Asked Question
Psychotherapy is a general term for treating mental health challenges by talking with a professional who specializes in mental health. In this case the professional would be referred to as a licensed professional counselor. Psychotherapy is used synonymously with other terms you may have heard such as counseling, therapy, and talk therapy.
The psychotherapy process can support individuals in learning about their unique personal experience. This includes learning what your specific mental health concern may be named if applicable. This clarity will offer both the mental health professional and the client a clearer course of action to reduce the client’s complaints of negative symptoms by learning appropriate coping skills and strategies for wellness.
